Gosford Hill School, in Kidlington, is looking forward to a new era with the appointment of a headteacher, new buildings and an ambitious bid for Government funding.
New head David Jones comes to the school, in Oxford Road, from Lord Williams's School, in Thame.
His arrival coincides with the opening of a new classroom block, housing five classrooms, offices, a computer suite, toilets and a spacious communal area.
School governors are hoping the new building will strengthen the school's application for special status in mathematics and computing.
