Witney MP David Cameron called in at Carterton Community College to join a group of people with hearing difficulties.
He was interested in practical problems as he watched them receiving instruction in lip reading from tutor Kay Colyer during his visit on Monday.
Funding for the classes, provided by the county council, has been cut and pupils have been forced to pay towards tuition.
Mr Cameron said: "There is a real fear that people who need this valuable form of communication will miss out because of the charges.
"It is complementary to sign language, but is a quicker way of communicating."
