City centre food shoppers have been given another boost after it was revealed a new supermarket is to set up in a prime location.
Sainsbury's has plans for a 7,500sq ft store in Oxford's Magdalen Street. This means that the Northgate Quarter development, which includes Debenhams and the Borders bookshop, is now fully occupied.
Oxford city centre manager Marcus Lapthorn said: "The city centre is under-provided in terms of food shopping, so this is welcome."
The store will be a smaller operation selling sandwiches, snacks and ready meals.
The Sainsbury's in the Westgate Centre will remain and Mr Lapthorn said he expected it to expand if the centre is redeveloped.
No-one from Sainsbury's was available for comment.
A new pub, Far From the Madding Crowd, is also to be opened in the Northgate Quarter in May by Noel Reilly, who previously ran the Jude the Obscure pub on Walton Street.
It will host book launches and poetry readings, and display works by local artists.
