Oxford Univ 24, Penguins 20
Oxford recovered from going ten points down in as many minutes to beat a Penguins side containing current Cambridge captain Mike Count at a damp Iffley Road last night.
After unconverted tries from their wingers Martin Ridley and Neil McKim, it looked as though Penguins would storm to victory.
But the Blues' forwards dug in, and two tries by elusive full back Will Rubie and another by winger Will Ellerbie, plus two conversions by astute fly half Soushi Fuchigami put the home side 19-10 ahead at half-time.
As conditions worsened in the second half, constructive rugby became tricky.
Oxford lock Adam Russell slid over for a try from five yards in a sea of spray before Penguins, who should have flourished in these conditions, replied with late tries from replacements James Ross and Steven Gray
Oxford Univ: Rubie, Stafford, Marsh, Dick, Ellerby, Fuchigami (Honeyben), Taberner (Nishioka), Street (Hobley), Brooks, Hopcroft, Russell (Sugden), Edwards (Cosgrave), Miall, Ap Gwilym, Gemmell (capt).
