Plans to build a 120-room hotel next to a golf course at Adderbury go before councillors tonight.
The owner of Banbury Golf Centre, at Waterbridge Farm, in Aynho Road, Adderbury, has applied for permission to build the hotel.
The proposed site is on reclaimed land -- a former tip -- opposite Banbury Business Park.
The plans include a new clubhouse, driving range and a car park for 262 vehicles. The application also includes an offer to provide a site for a community centre for Adderbury.
County and district councillor Keith Mitchell is calling on Cherwell District Council's north area planning committee to reject the plans, which he said contravened planning guidelines. But golf club owner Mike Reed says the hotel is badly needed.
The Highway Authority and Cherwell District Council's head of planning and development Alan Jones have recommended refusal.
Adderbury Parish Council said it could not support the plans, but would not formally oppose them.
Twelve letters from local residents and businesses supported the development and three residents of Adderbury and Aynho opposed it.
The main objections were the increase in traffic, the urbanisation of a rural area, lack of mains sewerage at the site, the impact of a large building on the landscape, and that the development would be against planning policies.
Those in favour of the hotel said it would improve the golf course and provide employment opportunities.
Cllr Mitchell, who lives a mile from the proposed site, said: "The application includes an offer to provide a site for a community centre. There are sites within the village for a community centre and this sweetener should not be taken seriously."
