Young asylum seekers met the High Sheriff of Oxfordshire to share their experiences of life in the county.
Helen Kariuke was one of 35 students who met the High Sheriff, Lady McLintock, at Oxford School, on Friday, to discuss a project on what it means to be an outsider.
The Getting to Know You project is funded by the Thames Valley Partnership, and aims to give pupils from non-English speaking backgrounds a chance to tell their life stories.
School spokesman Pat Norman said: "Some have found it very difficult coming to terms with how to develop an identity in a new culture."
