Councils in Oxfordshire are joining forces to offer families a cash incentive to switch from disposable to reusable nappies in a move to cut down on waste.
Every day in the county, an estimated 100,000 disposable nappies are thrown away -- five-per-cent of all the household rubbish produced.
In an effort to reduce the vast amount of waste going to landfill tips, families are being offered a payment of £30 to start using washable nappies.
Starting next Tuesday, families will be able to register with a local laundering company called Nappy Tales and receive a reduction of £30 off the cost of the service. Alternatively, they can wash their own reusable nappies and get money back from the purchase of nappy wraps, the outer covering for cotton nappies.
