Civilian police driver Roger Fancourt has been given a long-service award.

Father-of-two Mr Fancourt has worked at Thame police station since 1979, after he left the Army.

He was presented with the award, from Thames Valley Police, by Chief Constable Peter Neyroud at a ceremony at Drayton Golf Course, near Abingdon.

Mr Fancourt was credited with working beyond the call of duty to ensure things ran smoothly.

Insp Gilbert Houalla, of Thame police station, paid tribute to his hard work over 23 years.

He said: "Roger is a civilian driver, but he is always helping us around the station with other work, such as painting and maintenance. We appreciate all he does for us."

Long-service awards are given to Thames Valley Police staff who have worked for the police service for 22 years, or more.

Mr Fancourt was joined at the ceremony by his wife, Sandra, and father, Reg.
