With the spring grass beginning to grow, gardeners are being asked to dispose of lawn mowings responsibly.
The British Horse Society is appealing to gardeners not to dump grass where it could be eaten by grazing animals.
BHS spokesman Nichola Gregory said that dumped grass, which can cause a fatal build of gas in the animal's gut, had already cost the lives of three horses in the south east this year.
