Heart patients in Banbury will receive quicker treatment after two ECG machines were given to Horton Hospital by Cherwell Vale Primary Care Trust.

The heart-monitoring equipment was handed over to the hospital's cardiac investigations department on Wednesday, 17 April.

The machines monitor the heart rate of people who experience symptoms such as dizziness, palpitations, or shortness of breath.

The information obtained is transferred directly to a computer, and will give GPs swifter access to details.

At present, the hospital only has one such machine.

Dr Stephen Blake, head of the care trust's implementation group, said: "These machines are very effective.

"Compared to traditional 24-hour portable ECG machines, these can provide up to six weeks monitoring time, which will reduce the number of hospital visits a patient makes. They also provide a more detailed analysis and give a clear indication of what is wrong."
