Oxford United boss Ian Atkins has earmarked the positions he feels are priorities to be strengthened this summer.
He wants to bring in two full backs, at least two midfielders and two strikers.
United finished the 2001-2002 campaign in 21st position in Division 3 after the worst season in their history.
And Atkins, who took over from Mark Wright midway through the season, said: "The priorities are a right back, a left back, and to complement everything, we probably need at least two midfield players and two strikers - one in wide areas.
"The two full back positions are important because delivery from this area sets any team off. We have missed Lee Maddison since he went back to Carlisle.
"We need a dominant midfield force as well - we've got a lot of areas we need to sort out."
