Members of 14 Oxford churches are planning to feed 5,000 people during a series of free barbecues in Bonn Square.
During the four-day On the Move project, there will be live music on the streets, with a combination of choirs and bands playing from the churches.
Several hundred church members will be offering free food to passers-by from 12-2pm from Wednesday until Saturday, and giving people an opportunity to hear the sounds that are usually only heard behind church walls.
Rev Frog Orr-Ewing, local co-ordinator of the event, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for the churches to show their life and vibrancy outside the church walls and to spend time together to meet some of the needs of the community in the city centre. "Jesus fed the 5,000, and we aim to do the same."
The churches, which represent most Christian denominations, are expecting to feed between 4,000 and 5,000 people over the course of the four lunchtimes.
