Witness Service Oxfordshire operates in the county's magistrates' courts and Oxford Crown Court. It forms part of the Victim Support network with 35 trained volunteers on hand to support witnesses and victims giving evidence.
Lord Hurd visited Witney Magistrates' Court to meet the volunteers.
The deputy area manager for Victim Support, Margaret Ward, said: "Many people have never been in a court before and we help to familiarise them with the procedures. It is a free and confidential service."
