Speculation that top rugby union side Wasps could make their home at Oxford's Kassam Stadium increased with the news that the Zurich Premiership club hope to make an announcement on their future plans next week.

Wasps, whose biggest star is England's Lawrence Dallaglio, are set to leave their current home, Queens Parks Rangers' Loftus Road at the end of the season, and were expected to set up base at Wycombe Wanderers' Adams Park.

However, that move has been hampered by planning problems which will not be resolved until a meeting of Wycombe District Council on May 29.

So, comments by Wasps coach Warren Gatland, who visited the ground last month, that "we hope to make an announcement in the next week or so," suggest that Oxford United's Kassam Stadium is the new favourite.

Wasps' other alternative - that of sharing with London rivals Harlequins at The Stoop Memorial Ground - is also hampered by planning problems.
