Oxford City staged a late surge to win 2-1 at Ellesborough and go well clear at the top of Section 1 in the Shaw & Co Oxfordshire Foursomes League.
With three holes to go, Ellesborough looked as though they might be heading for a whitewash victory.
Cliff Pearce and Tom Lawson had accounted for John Summers and Ian Bound, and they were well-placed in the other two matches.
But the City pairing of Joe Linzey and Dave Summers won the last two holes to secure a one-hole trumph, while Andy Hooker and Will Peddie won the 17th to edge home by the same margin.
The three points gained mean that City finished the first half of the league campaign with 12 points.
However, they can still be overtaken, especially by Burford who pulled off a maximum 3-0 victory at home to Studley Wood to make it two wins in three matches.
Tom Potter and Ian Liddle led the way for Burford with a 6 & 4 win.
Chipping Norton assured themselves of top spot at the halfway stage in Division 3 with a 3-0 victory at home to Kirtlington.
Chippy's biggest victory came from Bill Jakeman and Neil Thornton who triumphed 6 & 4.
