Tributes have been paid to a stalwart of the Wantage sports scene who has clocked up half a century of service.
Dennis Stock with wife Margaret
Dennis Stock started his football career as a 15-year-old goalkeeper with Childrey Football Club, after he moved from London's East End.
He then played for Ardington & Lockinge.
Mr Stock, who will be 65 later this month, enjoyed an 18-year spell with Wantage Town before transferring to Letcombe Regis Football Club in 1976 as player-manager, and latterly, groundsman and chairman.
Letcombe Regis Football Club secretary Des Williams said: "He is Mr Letcombe Football Club. There wouldn't be a club without him.
"He has made a vital contribution to local football."
He added the hospitality and club teas provided by Mrs Stock were renowned in the league.
Mr Stock, of Whitehorse Crescent, Grove, said he had enjoyed his 50 years, and all the ups and downs of league football.
He had seen his team win the North Berkshire Division One and its Cup. This year, however, the team finished bottom of the Hellenic League.
He said he wanted to continue at the heart of football in the community for many years.
