The mother of Oxford United star Jamie Brooks believes her son is on the road to recovery following his mystery virus.
The 18-year-old striker, who scored ten goals for United in his first season, has been in intensive care in Oxford's Radcliffe Infirmary for more than a week.
"We're spending most of our time up there each day," admitted Jamie's mother, Lorraine.
"He's had a lot of tests. Our first thoughts are to get him out of intensive care. He's on the road to recovery and is in good hands."
Mrs Brooks does not believe the youngster's current illness will have any effect on his career.
And she dismissed any suggestion that the hectic climax to last season, when he played the final seven games following an injury lay-off and won all four of the club's player-of-the year awards, contributed in any way.
"It's a virus he could have picked up anywhere," she said.
"We're sure he's going to make a full recovery and he's looking forward to coming out, having a rest and a good holiday."
