Peter Fenn concludes his preview of The Oxford Times Cherwell League season, which starts tomorrow, with a look at Division 1 After ten years in the Birmingham League, Keith Arnold returns to skipper Banbury Twenty and will have this team boosted by the inclusion of former county and Bicester & North Oxford star David Wise.

Last year's leading wicket-taker Steve Hart takes over as vice-captain. Neil Harrison and Duncan Mitchell should be fit to start after missing much of last season through injury.

John Meredith and Pat Robinson are expected to join the squad later from Durham University, and other new boys Robert Palmer, Barry Grant and John O'Keefe will be keen to make their mark.

Thame retain the services of their all-round star Manoj Parmar and have signed all-rounder Andrew Hay, Oxford University pace bowler Adrian Borkett and seamer Nick Howden.

In addition, they welcome opening batsman Chris Wynd and, from Tiddington, left-arm spinner Kevin Crawford.

One man who will not be playing is Richard Carr, who has left the club. Carr, in any case, was banned for the first four matches of the season following an incident with a spectator at Banbury Twenty.

Challow & Childrey will miss the prolific all-round talents of Ashley Holznagel but hope that Australian replacement Steve Ferril will fill the gap.

Opening bowler Dave Moore has left but former Bicester & North Oxford paceman David Slade is back.

Chris Warboys is planning to retire from league cricket so Steve Berry is being groomed as replacement keeper.

Cristo du Preez will not be returning to Rover Cowley and their intended replacement South African all-rounder, Tim McIntyre, will not now be coming over.

Moshin Rana and Nawaz Ali have joined Oxford & Horspath, while Martin Oliver (cruciate ligaments) is sidelined for the season.

Oxford Downs welcome wicketkeeper batsman Noel Pearson back from a season's cricket in Australia. South African all-rounder Wesley Barrett and ex-Thame batsman Jon Roycroft should bolster the side.

Batsmen Pete Swainson and Alex Halliday join Aston Rowant who will again have Wesley Morrick and Nick O'Hara in their line-up. Promising leg spinner Chris Watling will also be aiming to claim a first-team spot.

There are no new faces at Shipton-under-Wychwood, but former Oxon skipper Phil Garner has undergone knee surgery in the winter and should be fit.

Wolverton are hoping for quick return to the Home Counties Premier League and have recruited all-rounders Ryan Butterworth, from Zimbabwe, Josh Sinclair from New Zealand and Jason Turner from South Africa.

These should help offset the losses of Stuart Brandom and Glenn Young.

Kimble will be without Phil Chanell and overseas star Salman Fazal, while Dinton report no changes.
