OXFORD Cheetahs ace Leigh Adams is a man with a mission when he lines up in the first of ten Grand Prix meetings at the Viking Stadium in Hamar, Norway tonight.
Adams, along with Lukas Dryml and Oxford asset Todd Wiltshire, competes against the sport's best in pursuit of the world title.
Pre-meeting favourites are again four-times world champion Tony Rickardsson and former Cheetahs man Jason Crump, who has bounced back from injury.
It will be a baptism of fire for young Dryml and he musn't let the occasion get to him if he is to make any impact in his first GP.
It will be different for the likes of Wiltshire and Adams, both old hands on the circuit, though Wiltshire, left out of the Oxford team in favour of Dryml in the GP rider restrictions, has been restricted to racing in Sweden and Poland so far this year.
Adams, who has been in scintillating form, said: "It's been pretty hectic this year, but I am raring to go. I have never ridden in Norway before and this is an indoor track, so anything could happen.
"I don't know what size the track is, but three or four practice rides should soon sort it all out."
Adams will be taking the engine that stood him in such good stead with an 18-point maximum at Eastbourne.
Adams added: "Peter Johns is again tuning my engines and the JAWA's are working well so far this year."
However, the Australian ace would swap the glory of the occasional first place for the sort of consistency that could gain him the ultimate prize.
"Winning the odd one would be nice, but I would rather be consistent all the way through the ten rounds and be there at the death."
Does Adams see the GP circus growing even bigger over the next few years?
"If it does get any bigger, I would certainly have to look at the possibility of dropping out of one league, that's for sure," he said.
Meanwhile, with the event being screened by Sky Sports tonight, fans can watch the action at the SOS barbecue at the Green Road Club.
It starts at 6pm and costs £6 for adults and £1 for kids.
The Elite League Trophy will be on display and fans can have their photograph taken alongside it.
