A 23-year-old woman who gave evidence against her co-accused has had her sentence reduced by Oxford Crown Court.

Earlier this month a jury heard that the three accused, all drug users, targeted women during street robberies last October.

Tessa Ryan, 23, who pleaded guilty to two robberies and one attempted robbery, injured two of the victims with a knife. The jury heard she was under the influence of drugs and had been pressured by the men into committing the crimes with them.

She gave evidence against Ian James, 46, and Slimane Benhalilou, aged 33, who denied all the charges.

James, 46, of Nightingale Avenue, Blackbird Leys, said to have been the ring leader of the gang, was found guilty and jailed for five years and nine months.

The driver of the gang's getaway car, Benhalilou, of Jane Seaman Court, Blackbird Leys, was jailed for four years.

Ryan, of Boundary Brook Road, Oxford, was given four-and-a-half years last week but Judge Tom Corrie yesterday decided to reduce the sentence by 12 months.

He told her: "Your information was valuable and your courage in giving evidence was admirable and you deserve credit.

"You were frightened of your two co-accused and you are under continuing threat of reprisals, as is your mother, after giving evidence against them."
