Oxford United's attempts to groundshare with top rugby union side Wasps have suffered a setback.

The Zurich Premiership club's first option of Wycombe Wanderers seems to be back on track after a decision by Wycombe District Council, who first blocked the move to Adams Park, to bring forward their meeting to hear the planning appeal.

The original date for the meeting was May 29, but it will now be held next Monday (May 20), after Wasps expressed concern that they were running short of time.

If the Wycombe deal falls though, it seems certain they will make their home at Oxford's United's impressive Kassam Stadium. Wasps option to groundshare with Harlequins at the Stoop Memorial Ground now seem to be on the back-burner.

Wasps owner Chris Wright said: "We have got some tough decisions ahead. Wycombe is closer to our roots than Oxford. Both have got excellent stadiums.

"But we are very impressed with Oxford. Now we have to decide what is better for us and our supporters.

"We still don't know if Wycombe is a definite option, because we don't know which way the council will vote."

Wasps director Charles Levison said: "I think it's fair to say that if the council votes in favour of rugby, Wasps will be going to Wycombe. If they don't we'll be coming to Oxford."
