AFC Wallingford sealed the Combined Counties League Premier Division title with a ten-goal drubbing of visitors Merstham, 10-1.

The home side, who cannot join Abingdon Town in Ryman League Division 3, because their Hithercroft ground is not up to the necessary standard, had the Merstham goal under siege from the start, with Andy Shildrick and Danny Campbell going close to breaking the deadlock.

Wallingford keeper Craig Rutherford was then called into action, making a fine save from Davies, before Bradley Ward's effort rebounded off a post.

But Wallingford kept up the pressure and were rewarded in the 39th minute, when Shildrick headed home Ward's free-kick.

Merstham were now under severe pressure. From another corner, Burton dived in bravely to collect in a crowd of flying feet.

With 44 minutes gone, Paul Hannigan went on a great run from half-way. He cut the ball into the area, but under tremendous pressure from Shildrick only managed to turn it into his own net.

Just 30 seconds later, Shildrick made it three.

Dan Stevens broke a tackle out on the right and drove the ball low through the six-yard area.

It flew clean through a crowd and the big striker was there at the far post to slot the ball home.

Two minutes into injury time, James McKinney put the ball forward for Ward running into the area.

He had a chance to shoot, but instead teed up Mick Mulvaney for an easy finish.

The game became a bit bad-tempered just before the break and a nasty lunge from Davies left Pete Bryan hobbling, and he didn't reappear for the second half. Dan Stevens was then brought down from behind.

Five minutes after the break McKinney made it five. Mulvaney stepped through a couple of tackles.

Ward crossed and Shildrick headed back across goal, allowing the midfielder to head home from close range.

On 62 minutes, Ward burst into the box and drove in a shot from a narrow angle.

Burton made a tremendous save but couldn't hang on to the ball. Lukea Rizkalla pounced to score Wallingford's sixth.

Ward then curled over a corner from the right and Gary Stevens made it seven with a powerful header.

Moments later, McKinney brought another good save from Burton with a 20-yard effort.

Merstham got a consolation goal five minutes later. Wallingford were strolling by now, and Jupp managed to burst into the box and slot the ball past Rutherford.

Dan Stevens made it eight with 70 minutes gone. Mulvaney lobbed a brilliant cross over the keeper and the wing-back headed home from the corner of the six-yard box.

Another good run from Hannigan with 15 minutes left cut Merstham apart. He picked out Rizkalla in the area, a clever turn wrong-footed the keeper and the youngster finished well to make it nine.

Nine minutes from time, Rizkalla did well again to keep the ball in play and pick out Andy Parr at the edge of the box. He in turn found Mulvaney on the far side, and the striker curled an excellent shot across the keeper and in at the top corner.

Both Rizkalla and Mulvaney brought excellent saves from Burton before the end.
