The search begins from today for the 2002 Midlander of the Year.
TV company Carlton launches its award scheme, which last year saw former Witney mayor, 80-year-old Arthur Titherington, pick up an honour.
He was recognised for his campaigning achievements in securing a £10,000 Government payout to former prisoners of war held by the Japanese during the second world war.
But last year's overall prestige award of Midlander of the Year went to John Towers, chairman of MG Rover, for helping to save thousands of jobs in the region.
Candidates have to be from ITV's East, South or Midlands regions and the awards recognise social, political, industrial, cultural and sporting achievements.
