Safety fears continue Parents of 20 children in Bampton are still refusing to let their children to go to school on a double-decker bus because of safety fears.
Their concerns have now been taken up by Witney MP David Cameron, who has presented a 251-name petition to Parliament.
The 106-seat bus, which replaced two coaches taking pupils to Burford School at the start of this term, has no seatbelts.
Mr Cameron said parents were concerned about safety and lack of supervision on the bus. "Tenders for school transport must be carried out in the correct way, but the views of parents must be taken into account," he said.
The issue has revived memories of a school bus accident 30 years ago in which three children died. Parent Tricia Bird said: "All the children are going to school. They're not being kept at home. But there are still about 20 whose parents refuse to use the bus and are taking them in and bringing them home each day by car.
"We're still holding out because we think it's wrong. If there's an accident we dread to think what might happen to those children."
Government minister David Jamieson said it was technically difficult to provide seatbelts on double-deckers. He added: "The need for belts is less than on long-distance journeys."
