Demand for newly built housing continues to rise, as the Government's pledge to build 4.4m new homes by 2016 looks unlikely to happen, according to Strutt and Parker.
The property firm claims that the Government's target is unrealistic and that, despite its objective, demand for new properties across the country is considerable.
Robert Miller, a partner of Strutt and Parker, said: "The problem is at its worst in the south east. In recent weeks the difficulties encountered by members of the emergency services in finding affordable accommodation near their places of work has made the headlines."
Newly built houses are particularly popular in Oxfordshire as purchasers go in search of a property that is convenient and easy to maintain. Demand is so high for some developments that there is a growing trend towards purchasing new properties even before any bricks have been laid - off-plan or from-plan, with the help of photo imaging.
The new housing market is attracting potential buyers to the county from far and wide. Many developments are situated in popular cul-de-sac locations which are both private and secure, and there is often a distinct community atmosphere which appeals to buyers with families.
The demand for new, high-quality housing is certain to increase over the coming years. In the meantime, there are several developments in locations across Oxfordshire to cater for those looking to buy a newly built house.
Work is now under way at Jubilee Mews in the Cotswold village of Filkens, near Lechlade - a development of nine two, three and four-bedroomed properties by Prowting Homes, due to be released in the near future. The development will include the renovation of The Lamb Inn - which in part dates back to the 17th century - to create four individual two and three-bedroomed properties.
A modern terrace house, in the popular Berkeley Homes' development of the Waterways in north Oxford, is also on the market. 53 Frenchay Road, is a four-bedroomed townhouse which has accommodation over three floors. The property, which is approximately ten months old, has a fully-fitted kitchen, sitting room, bathroom and en suite shower room. 53 Frenchay Road is on the market at a guide price of £395,000.
