Civil servants watched as St John Ambulance officer Jim Campbell taught his wife, Dawn, the kiss of life - as part of a Government learning programme.

Jim and Dawn CampbellMr Campbell was demonstrating life-saving skills during a learning at work day in Bicester. It was one of several demonstrations, which included displays by dog handlers who help the deaf in their homes.

The idea was to encourage workers to consider different career and hobby interests.

Displays were set up by the training and development centre of the Defence Storage and Distribution Agency (DSDA), which oversees the work of Bicester Defence Storage and Distribution Centre (DSDC).

Organisations represented included the Ministry of Defence police and fire service, the Open University, St John Ambulance and the Basic Skills Agency.

Training co-ordinator Sallie Wright said: "People were encouraged to take up hobbies or other interests they had not considered before."

Colonel Chris Murray, director of Bicester DSDC, also presented NVQ awards to staff.
