Jean Milford Jean Milford, who was born and grew up in Didcot, has died in Devon, aged 89.
She was the younger sister of Muriel Cullen, an organist and choirmaster at Didcot and East Hagbourne, who died three weeks ago.
Their late father was a railway signalman at Didcot, and both sisters went to school in the town.
Both sisters were dedicated musicians -- Jean Brown, a violinist, and Muriel, a pianist and organist.
In 1930, Jean took a post at Stockcross School, near Newbury, and in 1944 she obtained a teacher's certificate from Salisbury Diocesan College before teaching at Box, in Wiltshire.
In 1947 she married Archie Milford. The couple later moved to Devon where they had two daughters.
Mrs Milford played in the Plymouth Symphony Orchestra until her health began to deteriorate.
Her brother Bertram, who died in 1992, was also a railwayman and drove the last steam train from Didcot to Birkenhead.
There is one surviving brother, Trevor Brown, of Newbury.
