Thame's new mayor has no doubt what will be the highlight of his year -- the opening of the swimming pool in October.
Mike Welply said: "Thame has waited more than 80 years for this pool and I'm looking forward to being at the official opening.
"It will be a great day."
The pool, on Oxford Road, will be named the Jubilee Pool. His newly-elected deputy Mike Le Mesurier also has a major interest in the pool.
He started off the latest campaign to get the pool more than 10 years ago and is delighted it is coming to fruition.
The pool has been financed by the council selling off some of its land for housing.
Part of the £7m gained will pay for the pool and interest from the investment of the rest will pay for the continued maintenance and development.
The pool is on the Lord Williams's School site in Oxford Road alongside Thame Leisure Centre.
It will be called the Jubilee Pool.
