The new Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police will visit St Aldate's police station in Oxford on May 22.
Peter Neyroud will spend the afternoon in Oxford, being given a tour of the police station and on patrol with the city centre unit.
Mr Neyroud will be shown around the refurbished custody suite, which reopened in January after a £300,000 refit, by Chief Insp Stefaniya Leigh.
He will also have his fingerprints taken on the new Livescan Machine, which holds a database of fingerprints from people across the country. Insp Dave Hill will demonstrate the VIPER -- Video Identification Parade Electronic Recording -- ID system, which is based in the city.
The system allows victims and witnesses to identify suspects through video images, as an alternative to traditional parades.
Chief Supt David McWhirter, area commander of Oxford Police, said: "This is an excellent opportunity to show the chief constable what a busy and hard-working area Oxford is."
