A busy road was closed for about nine hours after a truck overturned and spilled its load.

The A420 between Faringdon and Shrivenham was closed for most of yesterday after the lorry hit a tree, spilling metal pallets.

The lorry overturned on a right-hand bend near the Shrivenham roundabout between Longcot and Shrivenham.

The driver, a Leighton Buzzard man aged in his thirties, was cut free from his lorry by firefighters, and taken by Oxfordshire Ambulance Service to the Princess Margaret Hospital in Swindon. He suffered minor injuries.

Thames Valley Police were called to the scene at 9.40am.

The A420 was closed up to the Great Coxwell turn near Faringdon. Traffic was diverted onto the A417.
