John Capon is retiring as editor of the Didcot-based Baptist Times after a diverse career which began on the railways.

John Capon

Mr Capon, 63, who took over the helm of the Baptist weekly in 1991, will be succeeded by Hazel Southam, a freelance writer who formerly edited a now defunct Church of England diocesan newspaper called Winchester Way.

Mr Capon has spent more than 40 years involved with journalism and publishing, after starting out as a trainee railway executive.
