When the pavilion of Oxford Downs Cricket Club at Standlake was destroyed along with 80 years of memorabilia in a recent blaze, problems were made worse by the theft of a caravan given to them as a temporary home.
The incident, although far from amusing for those concerned, caught the eye of Oxford Mail cartoonist Ivor Roberts, whose picture of the club reduced to welcoming a visiting team in a small tent appeared on June 26.
One of the team, Oxfordshire county cricketer, Luke List, phoned the Mail to ask for a copy of the original. Yesterday, Mr Roberts handed over the framed picture to Mr List and club secretary Boris Wilenkin at Newsquest Oxfordshire's Osney Mead offices.
The club is now using a marquee and a portable building loaned by a local company, but plans are already being drafted to replace the metal, breeze block and cladding structure destroyed in the fire.
The club hopes the new building will be ready by next season.
"When it opens, this picture will be given a place of honour on the wall," said Mr List.
