Lady Bradshaw, the wife of Wallingford's county councillor Lord Bill Bradshaw, has died at her home.

Jill Bradshaw was 64 and had suffered recurrent bouts of cancer for nine years.

On the day she died, her latest grandson was born to her son Robert and his wife.

She was born in Iver, Buckinghamshire, and she and her husband moved to Wallingford in 1963.

They had also lived in Cholsey and Aston Tirrold.

Lady Bradshaw played the trombone with Cholsey Silver Band for many years and was a trustee and vice president. She was also an enthusiastic bell ringer after learning in Cholsey in 1963.

She took a large part in the activities at the Corn Exchange theatre and ran the box office there.

Lady Bradshaw was also co-chairman of Tangent, the women's section of the Wallingford 41 Club, and very involved with St Leonard's Church where she and Lord Bradshaw worshipped.

Lord Bradshaw said: "She did all my secretarial work for the county council and police authority and dealt with all the household bills.

"She knew she was dying over the last few weeks and she did everything she could to teach me how to cope with all the paperwork.

"She was a wonderful woman."

She is survived by her husband, their daughter Joanna Gilbert and son Robert.

Funeral arrangements are private and for the family only, but a memorial service will be held in St Mary's Church, Wallingford, on Saturday, September 7, at 3pm.
