Assistant manager Pete Lamont is keen to take over the hot-seat at Abingdon Town following the departure of boss Alan Thorne.
Pete LamontGlasgow-born Lamont has been involved in local football for more than 20 years.
And he did his chances of securing the job no harm as Town drew 1-1 at Horsham in Tuesday's Bryco Cup match.
"I am definitely interested in the job, I'm very keen to take it," he said.
"I don't know what the club is intending to do about the job, but hopefully I will be among the favourites. I certainly won't be having an interview, and you can read into that what you want.
"I have always done my best for Alan when he was here and for the club, and will continue to do so."
Although Lamont has not managed in the Ryman League, he also worked as coach to Andy Sinnott at Thame United for three years, and believes he can do a good job.
His first managerial post was at Yarnton, steering them to the Oxfordshire Senior League title.
He then took over at Hellenic League side Kidlington before being involved at Witney Town.
Lamont has been delighted by the players' positive attitude, and he wants that to continue when they travel to high-flying Ware in Division 2 tomorrow.
Jonny Beames again plays in goal, while youngsters Jon Steadman and Graham Cole are added to the squad.
