New Abingdon manager Pete Lamont celebrated his first match in charge by coming away from Ware with all three Ryman Division 2 points on Saturday.

Garry ParkerLamont, who has recruited Kidlington Old Boys boss Gordon Geary as his assistant, was given the job when Alan Thorne decided to quit last week.

And the new man wasted no time in making his first signing, snapping up former Aston Villa and Leicester City midfielder Garry Parker, who lives in Kidlington.

Parker quickly stamped his class on the game, scoring with a classic free kick.

If Lamont was looking for a dream start, he was about to have an initial rude awakening - after just 15 minutes Abingdon found themselves two goals down and with a mountain to climb.

Ware opened their account after 12 minutes, when Lewis Field netted past Jonny Beames.

Three minutes later it got worse, when Kearney's first-time volley was miscued, but bounced agonisingly over the despairing dive of Beames.

After 22 minutes, Parker hauled Abingdon back into the game, with a classic 22-yard free kick, bending the ball beyond the wall and into the net off the inside of a post.

Four minutes later, Matt Hendra and Chris Potter combined to set up Stuart Douglas, who rifled in the equaliser.

It was Potter who put Abingdon ahead after 79 minutes, with a shot from 18 yards.

Ware had a player sent off, presumably for remarks to the referee, who then awarded a penalty against Town skipper Dave Tregurtha. Kearney converted to make it 3-3

Abingdon pushed forward and just three minutes later, Chris Harper put them ahead from close range, after good work by Scanes.

In the last minute, Harper unselfishly rolled the ball across the face of goal towards the unmarked Hendra.

But in a despairing attempt to clear, an onrushing defender only succeeded in burying the ball into his own net.
