I was saddened to hear of the likely closure of Headington Quarry School. It is not through any of its own shortcomings (Oxford Mail, November 11).
This small school is a casualty of the re-organisation of city schools. Unfortunately, it does not have the space to function as a primary school and understandably, some parents see two moves during their children's primary education as one move too many.
I am grateful to the past and present staff of Quarry School which gave my daughter an excellent start. The strong sense of community within the school provided her with the skills to succeed in her subsequent schools.
Part of the social history of Quarry will go with its closure. The building, at the heart of a community it has served well, should have its future use sensitively and imaginatively considered.
