Women's English League: Rover Oxford Ladies lost a half-time lead as they were outplayed after the break by a physical and determined Poynton, who ran out 3-1 winners in their Division 2 encounter.

Kim Cook fired over the bar from an early short corner, and there were good chances for Rover's Marie Hayden and Suzanne Williams.

However, Poynton looked more likely to score with two point-blank shots being brilliantly saved by Liz Say.

Rover took the lead in the 24th minute when Marie Hayden beat three defenders before cracking the ball into the roof of the net.

In the second half, Rover allowed the visitors too much space and Poynton began to dominate.

Rover then lost central defender Liz McVey with a hamstring injury, and they conceded three goals in a 15-minute spell.

The first goal came in open play with a reverse stick shot from a rebound after Say had made another excellent save.

The other two both came from well-executed short corners.
