Financial consultant Jan Dybalski has emerged as the mystery man who passed on four racing tips to punter John Fedrick, netting him a cool £11,000 in an accumulator bet.
Jan Dybalski and John Fedrick toast the big winJohn, of Thames Street, Oxford, was at the Butchers Arms in Headington to watch England's big rugby match with New Zealand when he was given the tips by Jan, whom he had never met before.
As he was celebrating his 39th birthday, John rang Oxford bookmakers River Racing to place a £5 each-way acummulator on the four horses - and they all romped in.
Jan, 33, of Westbury Crescent, Cowley, had £10 on one of the tips - Swansea Bay - which won at 14-1, before following John's big win.
Jan, who works at Lloyds TSB in Headington, said: "I was just chuffed, having won £140 on one of the horses. I never even thought of doing an accumulator."
John gave Jan £100 for the tips, but left the pub without knowing who he was.
Jan explained that he had received the tips from a friend, Ray Bailey, who runs a tipping service called TXT Racing.
Bailey, 34, who lives at Iffley, was staggered to hear news of John's big win.
"I couldn't believe it. It is quite amazing," said Ray, who won just under £2,000 in single bets on the four horses.
He has a website txtracing.com and punters can receive his tips by sending the message 'bets txt' on a mobile phone to 82231. It costs £1 a message.
