A Colonel at Dalton Barracks, near Abingdon, has been promoted and is about to take up an overseas posting.
Col David Shouesmith has been promoted to Brigadier and will command 102 Logistic Support Brigade in Gutersloh, Germany.
Col Shouesmith, 45, said: "I am looking forward to the challenge of a new appointment but am pleased that, during my time here, Dalton Barracks has been confirmed as an Army core site."
Col Shouesmith has served in Abingdon as a Squadron Commander with 3 Close Support Regiment, and as the Commanding Officer of 4 General Support Regiment. In 1994 and 1998 he took units to Bosnia.
During the next six years the Ministry of Defence will be pouring more than £34m into upgrading and improving facilities at Dalton Barracks to ensure its long-term future as a key element in the Army's strategic role.
Col Shouesmith said: "Dalton Barracks will be retained in the long term. Money has been earmarked for improvements to the station's infrastructure and to upgrade soldiers' accommodation."
