Hundreds of people packed an Oxford church to listen to the new Archbishop of Canterbury.
Dr Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Wales and Bishop of Monmouth, agreed to preach at All Saints Church, in Headington, after being invited by the vicar, the Rev James Cocke.
Oxford Lord Mayor Gill Sanders joined the large congregation during choral evensong on Friday to hear Dr Williams' sermon entitled How do we recognise a spirit-led community?
The service was not the first the Archbishop has taken part in at the Lime Street church.
As a friend of Mr Cocke, he has in recent years overseen a Good Friday ceremony, and preached at an ecumenical gathering.
Although he was elected as Archbishop of Canterbury earlier this month, Dr Williams will not officially take up the role until next month.
