An Oxford newsagent was robbed in broad daylight as he left a busy cash-and-cash store near the city centre.
The 65-year-old man was punched and kicked to the ground by four robbers who made off with £800 worth of cigarettes he had bought just minutes before.
The attack took place in the car park at the Booker store at the Osney Mead industrial estate on November 18.
The robbers, described as two white males and two men of mixed race, fled in a dark blue Vauxhall Omega along Botley Road towards the A34. Their victim was left shaken and bruised.
The alarm was raised by Oxford Mail van driver Wayne Johns. The paper's office is next to Booker.
Police arrived within minutes of his 999 call.
Mr Johns, 35, said: "I just saw the bloke getting knocked to the floor and getting kicked. I could only see three of them, so I suppose the fourth was in the getaway car.
"It was really violent. They ran off when I shouted."
Booker deputy manager Peter Burdon said CCTV security camera tapes had been handed to the police.
Witnesses should call the police on 01865 266333.
