DISGRACEFUL scenes with a minute left of extra time took the gloss of Mid Oxon's splendid 3-2 win over Reading in the ESFA Wizards Under 15 Trophy third round at Witney United.

With Mid Oxon on the brink of a notable victory, their tremendous effort was marred by a moment of madness involving a Reading player and his father.

Daniel Bishop's strong challenge on a Reading lad was adjudged to be a foul by the referee, who blew for a free kick.

But then the Reading player launched a verbal assault on Bishop - threatening him in the process - which prompted the official to show him the red card.

It was then that the lad's angry father came on to the pitch, allegedly attempting to attack the referee before being held back by the Reading coaches.

The official abandoned the match, but the ESFA ruled on Tuesday that the result should stand.

There had been no indication that the match would come to such a stormy conclusion when Reading took an early lead.

Andy Caton fired home an equaliser just before half-time, and then put Mid Oxon ahead after the break following a goalmouth scramble.

Reading levelled the tie 20 minutes from time, but Bishop - who was later to be at the centre of the controversy - grabbed the winner in the first period of extra time.

Now Mid Oxon are away to the winners of today's clash between Coventry and Solihull, with the tie to be played on or before Saturday, December 7.
