Cherry Red Records Hellenic League: Carterton Tn 2, Wootton Bassett Tn 2

Carterton missed an opportunity to narrow the gap on Premier Division leaders North Leigh when they were held to a draw at home to Wootton Bassett on Saturday.

The home back three got an early wake-up call when caught static by the Geoff Swotton, who punished Town after only three minutes when easily beating a non-existent offside trap to put Bassett in front.

Four minutes later, Carterton equalised when Kenny Clarke danced past three Bassett defenders to notch a well-taken goal.

Just before half-time, the home defence was caught out again by Swatton, who put Bassett back in front with a well-struck goal.

New signing Mark Jordan replaced Adrian Holder at the start of the second half as Carterton continued to dominate.

Clarke and Hamill missed chances to level the game, before the home side made it 2-2 on the hour. Jordan sent Michael Duerden on his way towards the Bassett box, but he was brought down by last man Luke Sharps, who promptly received his marching orders.

Mortimer-Jones stepped up to take the spot kick, only to be intimidated by goalkeeper Steve Hale, who also found his name going into the referee's notebook. Mortimer-Jones blasted home the resulting penalty to level the score, but Carterton could not find the winner in the last quarter.
