South West Division 1: A disputed try in the dying seconds saw Chinnor robbed of victory by high-riding Dings Crusaders at Kingsey Road on Saturday.
In fact it was not so much of a 'steal' by Dings, more like larceny on a grand scale as they ran out 8-7 winners.
Chinnor spent at least 30 minutes of the second half camped in Dings territory and after going close to scoring several times, were still ahead until the visitors scrambled home to stay second in the table.
After an initial burst of fisticuffs, the game settled down into a rather dour affair in the rain as Dings kept the game tight and played ten-man rugby.
Chinnor had two chances to take the lead but Conor Begley was unable to oblige with the boot from favourable positions.
Just on half-time, Dings broke the deadlock with a penalty which was made all the easier when Chinnor were marched back 20 yards for backchatting the referee.
A try by Dave Seymour, following an astute kick by Begley, gave Chinnor a deserved lead, with Begley also adding the conversion.
Although Tom Whelan went close and Chinnor's pack threatened the Dings line, the score remained unchanged until the dying seconds.
The referee then gave a try when most spectators thought he had raised his arm to signal a double movement by the Dings centre.
It was not the best of farewells for Arnoldus Du Toit Serdyn, who gave his all in his last appearance for the club before returning to South Africa to complete his studies.
