The public has voted to rename the widened part of Oxford's Park End Street as Frideswide Square.
The city council asked people to suggest names for the stretch of road where the bus stops are located because it was often referred to incorrectly as Station Junction.
More than 1,300 people voted for the shortlist of four names, with 489 people voting for Frideswide Square, ahead of Frank Cooper Square. New street signs could go up before Christmas, after the area committee approves the decision on December 10.
The votes cast were:
Frideswide Square -- 489
Frank Cooper Square -- 423
Rewley Square -- 267
Park End Square --151
Maps will now display the new name.
City councillor Colin Cook, who represents the Jericho and Osney ward, said: "My personal favourite would have been Rewley Square, but everyone had their own view and the good thing is that the public were properly consulted."
The council's area co-ordinator, Rebecca Carley, added: "We were impressed with the number of votes cast.
"It shows that people do take an interest in their surroundings and care about the communities they live in."
She said the council could decide to involve the public more in naming streets.
