Details of a £10m scheme to transform the Old Gaol in Abingdon have finally been revealed.
Under the plans the 191-year-old building would be transformed into a centre of culture.
A theatre, cinema, library, museum and pub-restaurant are included in the project, put before Oxfordshire County Council's executive board for the first time yesterday (26 November).
Members of the board agreed the scheme in principle.
The Old Gaol was the town's leisure centre for 27 years until it closed at the end of March, replaced by the new leisure centre in Audlett Drive.
The project would need investment from the county, district and town councils. Other possible cash sources are the Arts Council, Heritage Lottery and commercial concerns.
