A call has been made for Wallingford people to rally round their young people and help transform the town's refurbished youth centre into a special place.
Area youth worker Dave Leggett said: "We will need volunteers from adults as well as young people to get the place shipshape and brightly painted.
"We want it to be an attractive and special place for our young people, somewhere they are eager to go."
The youth centre in Clapcot Way will re-open on January 13, a year after it was closed down on health and safety grounds.
The building, which was considered temporary when it was put up in 1941, had become dilapidated.
Now Oxfordshire County Council is refurbishing it as another temporary measure.
The aim is that it can be used by the town's young people while a purpose-built youth centre is considered.
It is likely that it will be in Clapcot Way, but the land around it will be sold for housing or other development.
Mr Leggett said: "The refurbished centre will not be anything fancy, initially.
"Just before Christmas we should have the shell of the building ready for decoration and we will do a lot of the work ourselves.
"But we will need help from the wider community to provide us with paint and labour.
"The first impression that young people receive when they come to the refurbished centre will be all-important. We want it to be an attractive and special place."
