Only hours after our report of its closure was published, offers of help began to flow in, as people realised what a loss it would be to the city.
Liz and Fred Ingram, who have run the club so successfully for 30 years, were scuppered by lack of money and helpers.
Now, thanks to many generous offers, it looks like getting a new lease of life, sharing its resources as well as its time with other groups
Hundreds of elderly people have relied on it for company, conversation and entertainment.
No effort should be spared to keep it open.
