Bus users in Oxfordshire could soon know how long they have to wait for the next service, thanks to a hi-tech information system.
The Real Time Passenger Information System (RTPI) could be operating at 20 bus stops between Oxford and Kidlington by the end of next year.
The system could then be rolled out to other key bus routes in the county, with further installations taking place until 2011.
Members of Oxfordshire County Council's executive board agreed to investigate the cost implications, before testing the system between Oxford and Kidlington.
Most RTPI systems work through satellite technology and radio signals communicating with mini-computers on buses, at bus stops, and at central control locations.
A display at the bus stop tells passengers when the next bus is due.
The two main bus operators in Oxfordshire have expressed support for the system and a willingness to contribute to the total cost.
