Morrells of Oxford Sunday League round-up
Premier Division basement boys Morris Motors turned the form book on its head to beat Cowley Cosmos 3-1 - Cowley's first defeat of the season, as only five games survived the rain.
Motors, revitalised by the return of several top players, were on top form at Sandy Lane, and in an end-to-end first half were unlucky not to be in front.
However, after the break they upped their game even further and took a deserved lead through Dennis Williams.
Spencer Palmer doubled their advantage as they took control and created several more opportunities, Williams missing two golden chances and a penalty before sealing the game, Cosmos snatching a consolation goal in the last three minutes.
Northway did the double over Sporting Launton in Division 2 when defeating them 3-1 at Hethe to take second spot.
Despite the damp conditions, both sides started at a cracking pace with no quarter being given and some lenient refereeing ensuring the game flowed.
Northway had the better of the first half and created several chances, but were only 1-0 up at the break, Danny Goodchild firing home from an acute angle at the far post.
Launton battled back at the start of the second half and a period of pressure saw them force an equaliser.
Veteran Shaun McDonagh, playing at right back for Northway, used his experience to steady the ship, allowing Northway to regain their lead through Karl Gray.
Confidence restored, Northway could have scored several more times before a right-wing cross from Darren Brown was met by a stooping Andy Hooper to settle the tie, although Launton continued to battle and were unlucky not to snatch a further goal in the dying minutes.
In Division 3, Chase Finance Res, possibly bolstered by a few first teamers, secured their first points of the season with a comfortable 5-0 win over Iffley Harriers, while Chalgrove secured a 3-1 win over ONS in a bad-tempered game.
The only other game saw Bullnose Morris defeat Jammi 2-1 in a close Division 4 encounter.
Both teams found the going tough in the tricky conditions and were not used to the strictness of referee Dave Williams that made the game somewhat disjointed.
However, visitors Jammi took the lead in the first half, but Bullnose improved after the break and took all the points through Peter Flaherty and Daryl John.
